Statement issued Thursday:
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., May 10, 2012 – SUPERVALU INC. (NYSE: SVU) today announced plans to consolidate its Xenia, OH distribution center into its larger distribution center based in Fort Wayne, Ind. SUPERVALU regularly reviews its business operations and made the decision to consolidate these distribution centers to improve operating efficiency and better position the company for strategic growth. The consolidation is expected to be completed by the end of September 2012.
As a result of excess capacity in the more than 640,000 square foot Fort Wayne facility, SUPERVALU is able to combine these two operations and better position the company for future growth of its distribution business in the region. SUPERVALU looks forward to continuing to serve its affiliated independent retailers throughout the region moving forward.
This announcement impacts 120 associates. SUPERVALU will work with the impacted associates and their union representatives to discuss the details of a consolidation and ensure a smooth transition.
